FROM WASTE TO WEALTH,HOW BLUE EARTH INSTITUTION IS TRANSFORMING CHILUMBA FISHING DOCKS AND EMPOWERING WOMEN & YOUTH
At the busting Chilumba docks on the Lakeshores of Lake Malawi,pollution and poor waste management once threatened livelihoods and the ecosystem in the community.Blue Earth Institution stepped in with an intergrated solution and the ripples of change are now being felt across the community.Blue Earth Institution launched a Lake and Waste Management program at Chilumba docks which is expected to extend on the lake shores of Lake Malawi by restoring the Lake,and creating Livelihoods through training locals in plastic collection,recycling and composting as one means of beneficial disposal of waste.What was once an eyesore became a resource,This initiative directly supports SDG6(Clean Water)SDG14(Life Below Water)and Malawi 2063 s Goal 2 Environmental Sustainability.
